My Background:

I am a dual US/Greek citizen who attended Ithaca College (NY, USA) for my undergraduate degree, followed by Durham University Business School for my Master’s Degree. I had moved out to London after my graduation in search of a career. Now, I thought that when I moved to London, finding a job would be a relatively straightforward task. It was not; I got my ass kicked several times in the job-hunting process. By about month five of the process, I realized that I needed help. Conveniently, I was back home in Vermont at the time at a family friend’s house and they mentioned they had a colleague who was starting a service to help graduates better tailor themselves for the job market. This made too much sense not to do, so I set up the introductory call with Jeremy. In that first conversation, I explained that I was living in London on a graduate visa and was looking for work within the ESG/Sustainability Consulting realm. This challenge was three-fold: First, several companies would not sponsor my future visa once my current one expired in 2025. Second, I had very little experience in the field beyond my graduate dissertation and some internships. Third, ESG/Sustainability Consulting is very competitive – especially in London – and I hadn’t had much luck getting interviews to that point.  To be fair, my job search strategy at the time was not great.  But Jeremy was ready to take on the challenge!

My job search strategy before meeting Jeremy:

To give you an idea of how I had been structuring my days: I would wake up, go to the gym, come home, and pump out as many job applications as I could in one day without even fully reading what each role was. I would send one standard resume and cover letter to every company I applied for to get as many in as I could. I just needed a job and figured “strength in numbers” …right? Wrong! It was so frustrating. If you’re reading this and you encounter the website “Workday” on your job search, God help you, because it made me lose my faith in humanity. I kept an Excel sheet of all the jobs I had applied for, hitting triple digits early on. Public Service Alert: LinkedIn’s “Easy Apply” button is such a trap! It makes it seem like you’re being productive, but I was so frustrated every day – “Why isn’t this working? How do all my friends from college have jobs, while I have a second degree and still can’t get a job!?”

Where Jeremy Helped:

From the first meeting I had with Jeremy, he dissected each step in my current approach and was honest about where I probably needed to adjust. More importantly, he taught me how to do it, which I loved – he was realistic and helpful simultaneously. We had a thought-provoking conversation early on where he asked me: if I could do anything right now to make money and find a sense of worth within my work, what would that be? My answer was simple: travel as much as possible, be in a client-facing role where I am not stuck behind an Excel sheet day and night, and help save the planet. He helped me discover that entering the world of consulting could be a great route to go down.

My favorite coaching session with Jeremy was when he helped me learn how to properly craft outreach messages to hiring managers, recruiters, and others who might have knowledge about the type of roles I was looking at. He showed me his methodology for getting much higher response rates and, better yet, I started to get many more interview requests. Who would’ve guessed?!

A few weeks in, I had a bunch of interviews, but still no offer. Jeremy recommended we conduct a mock interview to see what I was like when it was showtime. We set up a scenario based on a current role I was in the process of interviewing for, and we took it from there. The roleplay was great for highlighting where I showed strength and where improvement was needed. We recorded the interview so I could go back and watch it. This might be one of the most cringe-worthy things you can do, but it’s so necessary for your own development. After the interview was done, we dove into immediate feedback. Jeremy helped me learn how important it was to focus on perfecting my “Personal Branding” and improve how I introduced myself in interviews. He taught me how to adjust my elevator pitch to the conversations I was having, including considering the personality and characteristics of my audience. This was critical in getting me to second-stage interviews. Does it guarantee you’ll get every job? No, though those first impressions are so critical in setting the tone for the rest of the interview.

Outcomes:

My confidence sky-rocketed after securing more interviews and hearing back from more recruiters and managers. It is beyond demoralizing to refresh your inbox every 15 minutes praying for an answer and all you receive is an advertisement from Apple. The confidence Jeremy helped me find got me through the darker days when all I wanted to do was give up. With his help, I was getting interviews from jobs I wanted to do, not just a random role to fill the gap in my resume. Do you have any idea how satisfying that is!?

Biggest Frustrations:

My biggest frustration was not hearing back from recruiters when applying to jobs; I just wanted feedback because I spent time on the application but wasn’t getting any input on how I could improve. Jeremy taught me that it’s more about networking than how many resumes I submit, and if I hadn’t worked with him, I may have returned to the U.S., moved back in with my parents, and searched for jobs back in my hometown. I’d say the work I did with Jeremy sped up my process by a solid 3-4 months. The most effective techniques he taught me included how to properly craft an outreach message, how to set up my personal story to display myself in the best light, and deconstructing how I interviewed. None of my time with him was wasted and I’d say my only regret is that I wish we had done the mock interview sooner because it was a difference-maker for how I presented myself and told my story, to get my dream job.

Final Opportunity:

With Jeremy’s tireless help, I was able to secure my job at an Environmental Consultancy here in London. I opened the door by using the outreach methodology that Jeremy taught me and am so grateful that I can continue living my dream of living and working abroad for the foreseeable future. His services are legit, and they get the J-O-B done. I highly recommend him!
